Rejoice, O faithful Lostaway fanfolk! At last, at loooong last, it's the day we've all been anticipating for years. No, it's actually just been eight months. It only seems like years. Season 4 of Lost starts on ABC at 8 p.m., and from all advance reports, we can expect to be just as delighted, mystified and wowed as we were by last May's Season 3 finale. That's the good news. The bad news is that said delight and mystery will last only for eight eps, because we don't know when we will see the second half of Season 4. Production on Lost was interrupted by the screenwriters' strike, and even if the strike's settled by Oscar night, I figure we'll be lucky to see eps 4-9 through 4-16 by the end of this calendar year. Dallas native Elizabeth Mitchell, who plays the mysterious After that, we have two more 16-episode seasons to go before the show wraps up in 2010. Or whenever it does wrap. We could see the 2011 Super Bowl take place at the new Cowboys stadium before we see the last of Lost. Not that I'm complaining, really. Because while I understand the need for a definitive story arc, I'm going to hate losing my favorite network drama since, well, forever. I'm glad we'll have Lost for a little longer than we thought. In that sense the strike delay, while it's frustrating right now, will prove to have an up-side later on. So set your DVRs, sit back, relax and enjoy as we set off on another wild ride with our pals Jack and Juliet, Kate and Sawyer, Ben, Locke, Hurley, Sayid, Claire and Baby Aaron, Sun and Jin, Rose and Bernard, Desmond and Penny, and good old Vincent, the Dog of Doom. There will be some mysterious newcomers, too: those people from [as the late Charlie Pace put it] Not Penny's Boat. And please check back in to the TV blog later. I'll be posting thoughts, questions and a recap of the S4 premiere ASAP after the show ends. |
