Idol: Ramiele

As she leaves the show, so do all of the "You're so teeny-tiny-cute-adorable-little-petite-eensy-weensy!" comments. I don't think we'll miss those.
But even though it was really her time to depart this week, I always tear up during the goodbyes. Sigh. And I like what she said in the end: "This show has changed my life drastically. I never get chances like this. Not a lot of people get chances like this."

We caught up with the season-five finalist, who said this: "Being on American Idol for me was probably the most intense thing and the smartest thing I've ever did."
This is an exact quote. Very nice.

After his hospitalization last night, it's good to see David Cook is feeling well enough to jump around, Brady style, to "9 To 5."

Roger Ebert: Goodbye to 'Ebert & Roeper'

As noted over on the Screening Room blog, eminent film critic Roger Ebert won't be returning to his long-running, syndicated Ebert & Roeper TV show. He will, however, resume writing his movie reviews for the Chicago Sun-Times, probably late in April.

Idol: Further contemplation (Jason)

When Simon said the song didn't "suit" Jason, I'm wondering if he was referring to the religious overtones. The lyrics include this:
"God made me for a reason and nothing is in vain
Redemption comes in many shapes, with many kinds of pain
Oh sweet Jesus if you're listening, keep me ever close to you
As I'm stumblin', tumblin', wonderin', as I'm travelin' through."
The Idol judge probably doesn't know that Jason has performed regularly at his Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall. Songs about Jesus, therefore, suit him just fine. (And I loved every minute of it.)
Then there was Michael Johns' selection, "It's All Wrong, But It's All Right." A bit steamy! But that's the beauty of a songwriter like Dolly Parton: You get the religious emotions mixed with the not-so-religious. How very human of her.
