Dancing With The Stars: Au revoir-io mario

Here's hoping that Dancing with the Stars isn't a microcosm of the upcoming presidential election, because if it is, a lot of viewer-voters are going to be feeling disenchanted. R&B star Mario was eliminated despite his best-dance performance last night, while one-armed Cristian and scrappy Marissa both were spared. Shocked viewers may have had flashbacks to last season's unaccountably early departure of Sabrina Bryan, another young pop performer whose great dancing couldn't counter a lack of DWTS-watching fans.

Live and don't learn should be the motto of any viewer (take me, for instance) who keeps trying to apply rational analyses to predict outcomes on the show. Cristian has one arm and two left feet, but he knows how to ride a symathy wave. And Marissa is right there with him, plucking every scrappy underdog heartstring (did you notice how she dropped the admission that she is a cancer survivor in the backstage interview last night?). They both should have been eliminated before Mario, or Shannon Elizabeth, for that matter.

But -- and here's the live-and-don't-learn factor at work once again -- they're next to go and I don't care who goes first. Yes, I do. Cristian really can't dance while Marissa has improved. And to try to find a positive thread through all of this, it does clarify the show's finale which should be between Jason and Kristi, but if Mario had kept improving -- who knows? And now we never will.

This wouldn't be quite so galling if the show took care to demonstrate any sort of integrity, in the form of some level of transparency to the voting process. The fact is that viewers never know how many vote were cast, or who for, or how those votes are weigned against the judges' scoring. And we never will because this way the producers are free to tweak things however they want. Quiz Show ain't just a movie.

I believe the final contestants on DWTS are the best choices. Tony Davoloni took Marissa and worked very hard to make her become a ballroom dancer.....sadly he couldn't tweak her over the top, albeit sincere personality. The right stars are in the final four. In my view at the end Kristy and Cristian will be the choices - no doubt.

I think it is all SO ridiculous. Mario, was obviously
a beautiful dancer, but, was voted off, because of
politics. Christian, who was voted the lowest last
week, used the "sympathy" tool to manipulate the audience, which he did. He is a clever guy, and I
doubt the injury, as being only a ploy to remove him
from the bottom, as a dancer, which is where he belongs. But, the public is SO naive, and swallowed
his "sympathy" ploy.

I am satisfied that Mario went home. I didn't like Mario's dancing and I don't think he would have made the finals. I threw my votes to Marissa. I like watching her dance and I think she has greatly improved where Mario has been medi-ocre since the beginning. I won't comment on Christian because I am honestly not sure about him. I am realistic enough to know that Marissa probably won't win but I can sure help her along. My guess is Kristi and Jason as final 2 with Kristi taking it.

I thought it was downright adorable how much fun Mario had when he danced. So much more enjoyable to watch than someone technically on the mark like Kristi.

LOL @ Mario was voted off because of "politics"..just go ahead and say what you mean...he was voted off because he is black. YOu doubt one mans injury and call him playing the sympathy role while saying Mario was a "beautiful dancer" which is all YOUR opinion and clearly not that of the judges of the public. The public is only naive because they don't agree with YOU. But your whole "politics" claim is very telling, very telling indeed.

It should be clear by now that this is a popularity contest and not a dance contest. Otherwise, how do you explain Jerry Rice over Stacy Keibler and Emmitt Smith over Mario Lopez. Jerry and Emmitt improved tremendously and were solid dancers, but come on. I don't think it is an accident that the top three performances of all time were not by eventual winners.

It is very obvious that this is a contest of who the press thinks will fair the most ratings. It only takes to watch Entertainment Tonight to see who the favorites are. If you notice, only certain stars get mentioned on ET regardless of their performance. To watch ET one would think it was a competition of 3. Yes, Mario was voted off due to politics. He is cleary a better dancer than Marissa or Christian. Christian gets nightly air-time on ET while I have not once heard ET mention Mario. Let's get our heads out of the clouds and acknowledge the elephant in the room.

Jamal - you're not a member of Jeremiah Wright's church are you? Enough with the black/white thing already! Mario did not get voted off because he was black. Good grief!
