Idol: Carrie Underwood

Just had to throw this in: Remember when Carrie won the Idol crown? She was wearing that long, conservative-looking gown and seemed so meek and wide-eyed.
Well, she ain't meek no more. She's gained mucho confidence and stage presence since her Idol days, hasn't she? And her outfit tonight even had a cape attached to the sleeves! Nothing says "superstar" like that does.
I don't mean any of this as a diss, because I love Carrie. Just an observation that once these kids leave this stage, they don't always stay exactly the same.

Well, we're finished with the 7th season, and only 2 American Idol's make music that make the charts. I think David Cook will fade like the others.

American Idol is about how the singers relate to the audience, not about the singing. If it were the other way around, we would have 7 (maybe 8) charting Idols.

David Cook screwed up on Tuesday night. He was off key.

After season 3, I learned that the judge's comments have a major influence on how the public votes, so I won't vote anymore. As long as this competition is casual and things such as looks can sway the vote with the public, I won't waste my money. The past 4 seasons, I haven't watched until there were 4 singers left.

Brian, I agree with a lot of what you said -- except that this finale proves the judges don't have such a major influence on how the public votes. David Cook won by a hearty margin, despite the fact that Simon & Co. basically gave the title to Archuleta the night before. I don't know -- it kind of gave me faith in the system or something. Yes, I know I sound naive!

I disagree with the comments about David Cook not being able to sell a lot of records (may not be this thread but I think somewhere). He wasn't really for me, but I think he will do fantasic because he has the charisma. Many good sellers are not exactly great crooners.

You better back off baby. Carrie is the same American
Sweetheart she has been. She has matured as all young girls do. She is 25 and a knock out woman now. You can do sexy and still be classy. I have talked to her
three times and she is a smart and sweet lady. She is the most normal acting celeb I have ever met. She is not Hollywood in the least. The person up there is a
character. Carrie is just Carrie. All you have to do is listen to her Opry induction introduction. "She has not departed from her values." So back off baby
you are way off base.

I really think the reason so many Idols haven't become chart toppers is because there are too many. If Idol was cut down, and aired once every four years (similar to the Olympics) I think more people would rally behind the winner to make he/she successful.

Jill, I didn't say she had "departed from her values," even though you put that in quotes as if I had. For the record, I've also met her and agree with you that she's very "normal-acting" and nice. (And funny! Love her sense of humor.) I was just saying that her stage presence and style have changed, which is normal. Sorry you misread it.
