Idol: WINNER

9:07 PM Wed, May 21, 2008 |
Darla Atlas   E-mail   News tips

Well, we now have proof that while the judges' opinions mattter, they don't mean everything.
David Cook is your new American Idol, beating David Archuleta by 12 million votes. The best man won, as far as I'm concerned: He took the most chances with his songs, his voice was outstanding, he knew who he was as an artist.
And didn't we love how Simon tried to backtrack a bit after basically handing the title to Archie last night? Tonight, just before the winner was revealed, the Brit said he rewatched the Tuesday competition "and it wasn't quite so clear-cut as we called it. In fact, David, I will take this opportunity to apologize, because I think I was verging on disrespectful with you."
Many people will say he was trying to save face. I think I'd agree with them. But congrats to Cookie!

This television show embodies what is wrong with America.

Tyler - No - that Moment of Truth or whatever the show is that Fox promo'd during tonight's show is what is wrong with television!

The worse seat in the Kodak Theatre had to be behind Paula. With her standing up twisting most of the night, I bet all you would see is her back side! She needs to tone it down a bit before next season!

Doozie, you're so right! LOL!

I'm so glad David Cook won! He is by far the best singer in the competition since it started 7 years ago. I'm a grown woman with a son nearly David's age and still I'm a huge fan. I can't wait for his CD. I will definitely be one of the first in line to buy it! CONGRATULATIONS DAVID...YOU DESERVE THIS!

To all hispanics this is why you should not watch this sorry show. Open your eyes with all this illegal crap on the news.In americas eyes wether you were born here in the US or latin america your still illegal. If you have singing talent dont waste your time with this show.It comes to show you how racist this country still is.

Posted by Brian @ 3:10 AM Thu, May 22, 2008

Jorge - You are barking up the wrong tree. 3 of the final 4 this season have latino heritage. 3 AI winners have been black. Where's this racism you speak of?

Back on topic......the right David won.

TYLER AND DOOZIE, I AGREE WITH BOTH OF YOU 100%. What pissed me off the most is to check into the 9PM news only to have this stupid show carry into the news, and then Fox 4 NEWS team continue to talk about the idol idiots. I changed the channel and came back 10 minutes later and they are still talking about this worthless crap.

DC was the clear cut winner. Archie did not take any risks, his nerves showed everytime he performed. DC took risks and showed how creative he was several times during the competition. Archie has a nice voice, but leave him on broadway or something, I will not buy any of his records, that is for sure. Archie was Booooring!!

It has been proven many times since this show started that besides Kelly Clarkson the winner goes on to be a nobody in the music industry while many of the people that do not win go on to bigger and better careers. The same goes for this year's winner as well. We will not hear from him at all but David Archuleta will be huge.

Calling this show racist is pathetic. Ruben and Fantasia are Black. And oh by the way, THEY WON AMERICAN IDOL. The right David won. Nuff said.

Posted by Sharon @ 12:23 PM Thu, May 22, 2008

John, it's obvious you don't know much about the
Idols. Yes, Kelly has gone on to be a star. Look
what Fantasia has done. She just finished a great
run on Broadway starring in Oprah's "The Color
Purple" and getting ready to start a concert tour. And what about Carrie Underwood? She's won
just about every music award there is. Jordin
Sparks has two songs in the top 40. Way to go,
Cook!!!

I think David C will be much bigger in the long run than David A! David C is much more versatile than David A!

Jorge, PLEASE!
Stop being a martyr... the Discrimination Party bus left YEARS ago!!! There are more hispanics in this county now than ever before & all of them have cell phones & the abilty to call or text to vote for their winner (hence "Press 2 for Spanish").... The outcome of this show had NOTHING to do with race. Should I cry in my oatmeal & claim that Taylor Hicks was discriminated against and dropped by his record label because he was white & had grey hair??? Discrimination accusations only come from small-minded people who are too lazy to change their own situations and want everyone else to give them a handout.

If you are living in this country, have a roof over your head, go to work everyday, collect a paycheck and have food on your table everyday - then you should be thanking your lucky stars instead of insulting them!
There must be some reason you no longer live where you were born...Hypocrite!

At the beginning of the show David A was the clear winner and my hands-down favorite.
But I watched in amazement as the top three grew throughout the season.

While David A may beat out David C singing many romantic ballads or melodic choices, he is pretty much limited to that.
David C has a rangier raspy voice that is downright sexy.
He got my vote when he sang Phantom of the Opera -Music of the Night and never lost it after that.

Either one deserved to win - they were both fantastic! I just think David C can sing a greater variety of songs.

Congrats to them both! There were really no losers last night.

I voted for David A, I did not care for DC. I saw him as arrogant and rude with an attitude.

Posted by David C @ 5:26 PM Thu, May 22, 2008

No longer a fan. Arrogant? Ha...at least he wasn't a pansy like David A.

Posted by Dan @ 7:32 PM Thu, May 22, 2008

This is what is RIGHT with this country. Everyone had a fair chance to win
from blacks and Asians to Latinos. I would venture to say David Cook got a fair share of votes from all.
This was not a conspricy to keep anyone from winning. Jorge quit playing the race card just because your favorite
didn't win.

Call me crazy, but I couldn't help but wonder, if Simon was actually trying to push Cook fans into voting?
